Albuquerque EAA Chapter 179

EAA Chapter 179 was charterd in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 29th, 1963.  It was the first EAA Chapter in the state.  In July of 1965, the chapter was incorporated in the State of New Mexico and has been in continuous operation to the present day.

2004 Chapter President, Chris Kinnaman holds the recently rediscovered original charter signed by EAA National founder, Paul Poberezney.  The document includes the names of thirty charter members.

The Chapter is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to the promotion and enjoyment of sport/recreational aviation. We pursue this goal through a variety of educational activities and programs for amateur aircraft builders and other aviation enthusiasts.

Since the closure of Coronado Airport in 2002, the Chapter holds monthly meetings the third Tuesday of the month at the JB Family Restaurant, 15 Hotel Circle (Eubank & I-40), Albuquerque, NM.   These meetings feature: presentations on many aspects of aviation, resource sharing by pilots and builders, and a friendly get-together for members and visitors.

We hold our Annual Pot-Luck Barbeque in July and the Land of Enchantment Fly-In in September, at the Moriarty Municipal Airport (K0E0).  During the year we sponsor Young Eagles Rallys at Double Eagle II Airport (KAEG), Moriarty Municipal Airport (K0E0), and Belen Alexander Airport (KE80).
