The Experimental Aircraft Association - Albuquerque Chapter 179 is a 501(c)3 Charitable Non-Profit Organization, which seeks to educate the public about the benefits of general aviation and encourage our youth to stay in school and explore careers in aviation through academic, workshop and direct flight experiences.

Several times each year we sponsor Young Eagles Rallies at various airports in the area.  Kids from 8 to17 are given an orientation briefing and a FREE ride in a light aircraft by a local pilot. Click here for more information on the EAA Young Eagles Program.  In addition to the Young Eagles rallies, EAA Chapter 179 has as one of its major objectives to educate the young men and women of our community about the history of aviation in New Mexico, recreational flying and the opportunities available to them in aviation.

Our Young Eagles Coordinator and various chapter members meet with local educators and school children to discuss the Experimental Aircraft Association, the EAA Young Eagles Program and aviation in general.  If you would like to schedule a presentation at your church, school, Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop or Civil Air Patrol Squadron please contact Bob Hartman at (505) 565-2743.

For fourteen years we have sponsored th EAA Land of Enchantment Fly-In, at Moriarty Municipal Airport.  It provides a showcase for local experimental aircraft builders and an educational forum for the general public about general aviation, the FAA, aviation safety, youth workshops and the Young Eagles Program.

We hold monthly meetings with presentations on various aspects of aircraft construction, aviation history or recreational flying. These meetings are open to the public at no charge.  We also intend to sponsor workshops in various aspects of experimental aircraft construction as a way to encourage young people to continue their education and seek aviation related careers.

In 2006 we would like to expand our program by: 1) awarding scholarships to aviation oriented high school students who are willing to complete an online AeroScholars course ($399 each + $10 S&H for course kit) for college credit. Click here to learn more about the AeroScholars program. ; 2) using paid advertising to alert more parents and kids from 8 to 17 about our Young Eagles events; 3) sponsor high school students who wish to participate in our aircraft construction workshops.

To accomplish these goals, we need your donations and a building in which to house our library, hold workshops and provide a safe place where adult members can share their knowledge and experiences with our community's youth.  We also require continuing operating funds for these projects.

We are incorporated in the State of New Mexico and are registered with the IRS as a 501(c)3 charitable nonprofit corporation.  This means that you may deduct donations made to our organization from your Federal Income Taxes.

Suggested donations may include, but are not limited to; monetary contributions, aircraft, aircraft engines or aircraft projects which may be sold to raise funds, real estate donations, plus woodworking and machine shop tools.  You may make secure electronic cash donations online using one of the two services above "Just Give" or "Network for Good".  Donation reciepts will be generated automatically by the respective online donation service.  Please note that these services will deduct a 3% "processing fee" from your online donation to EAA Chapter 179.  Your donation to our chapter will help us achieve our goals.  Please contact a Chapter Officer or a member of our Board of Directors.  Check for current Chapter officers here.  Thank you for your generosity!
